Idols SA Auditions.
Idols SA has been renewed for a 17th season there is one significant change due to the COVID-19 epidemic that all auditions will be conducted on the internet.
Idols SA season 17 hopefuls are required to film themselves and submit a video in to Idols SA in order to place their names in the hat in order to follow the path of Zama Khumalo, who won Idols SA Season 16 today.

Idols is a TV show which airs on South African television network Mzansi Magic inspired by the popular British television show Pop Idol. It is a competition to find the most talented young performer across South Africa. The show was hosted by Candy Litchfield and Matthew Stewardson in the Season 1 episode.
Idols South Africa Winners Till Dates
Season 1
The season’s first season for Idols South Africa started in March 2002.
Auditions took place in January. Following Poland they were the first spin-off international of the first Pop Idol series that went to air.
However , the South African show did last longer than the Polish version, and Heinz Winckler was only the 2nd Idol winner in the world on the 17th of June, 2002.
He swept aside Brandon October who came second and Melanie Lowe who finished third.
Season 2
It ran for two seasons from the months of June through October 2003. The show was taken by then 20-year-old Anke Pietrangeli, who was given the name the Kimberley Diamond by the viewers who watched the show.
Half of the judges was replaced, as were two hosts as well as Colin Moss and Letoya Makhene currently hosting.
It was also the first time in the Idol program that just two male contestants were able to climb up to 12th place.
Season 3
Season three aired during the second half of 2005 , with the same judging panel as before with Colin Moss as the only host of the show.

M-Net has announced the launch of a five-season series of South African Idolswhich was launched on Sunday, February 1st 2009, featuring the summer theme and brand new rules.
Alongside increasing the intensity on the screening process,, the strict capella rule was dropped.
Instead, auditioners were permitted to bring their instruments to the auditions.
The judges aren’t happy on the guitars, in particular guitars, which are seldom played with a tune.
The official final Sasha Lee Davids was announced as the winner with 52.77 percent of the votes.
A few days later, Idols announced that there were issues regarding the voting line, and some votes submitted before the cut-off time had not been considered.
The investigation hit the front page of the Times on 8 May 2009 and later in the day it was announced on www.mnet.co.za/idols/ that the recount had showed that Jason Hartman had received 200000 more votes than Sasha Lee Davids(of 2.3 million total votes in the finale (recount)).
After a lengthy discussion with M-Net along with FremantleMedia (the format’s owners), Jason Hartman and Sasha Lee Davids were declared winners. Both received the same full prizes.
Season 6
Despite the previous seasons ‘ voting controversy in the final, M-Net announced a sixth season of South African Idolswhich began on the 18th of July, the 18th of July in 2010.
Judge for Idol Dave Thompson did not return on the panel this season. The auditions, which began in April and ended in May, Thompson was replaced by guests jurors of South Africa. South African music industry, like that of the American Idol (Season 9) audition stages.

Season 7

The decision was made after she was disciplined for mixing alcohol and painkillers prior to a performance.
She also was involved in a controversy over racism after she claimed that the show should be relocated to SABC3 to ensure that black people could be a winner of Idols since a large number of black people didn’t have DStv, and therefore could not send out hundreds of SMS messages to vote for their favorites.
She was substituted in the role of Metro FM personality and songwriter Unathi Msengana. On October 4, 2011 Dave Van Vuuren from Johannesburg in Gauteng was declared the winner.
Season 8
The news was released on the 9th of January, 2012 that the show was renewed for a new season in 2012.
The auditions for the nation-wide stage took place in February 2012. Season 8 of Idols was broadcast in the M-Net channel and M-Net along with Mzansi Magic on DStv simultaneously.
On October 2, 2012, Khaya Mthethwa from Durban in Kwa-Zulu Natal was declared the winner. She was the first contestant of color in the history of the show to be crowned the winner.
Season 9
The show was announced on January 11, 2013. The show was renewed for a new season in 2013.
National auditions were held from February 2013.
Season 9 of Idols was streamed concurrently through M-Net along with Mzansi Magic on DStv. This season’s winner was Musa Sukwene.
Season 10
The broadcasting of season 10 of Idols began on M-Net on the 13th of July, 2014.
The finale was telecast on M-Net as well as Mzansi Magic on DStv.
The inspiring story of his life being a child on the streets aged 12 when his mother’s death was a hit with many who watched Vincent Bones emerged as the 10th Idols SA winner on the 23rd of November, 2014.
Second place went to Bongiwe Slinda, the second woman of color on Idols SA history to go to the final.
Season 11
The season 11 of Idols South Africa began broadcasting on the 12th of July, 2015.

The top 2 teams were Mmatema Moremi, and Karabo Mogane. Karabo took the crown.
Season 12
Season 12 began airing in July of 2016 and ended on the 27th of November, 2016.
The top two of them were Noma Khumalo, and Thami Shobede, where Noma took home the season 12 crown.
Season 13
Season 13 started to air on the 09th of July, 2017 and season 13’s finale was broadcast on the 19th of November 2017.

Controversies Only Makes The Show More Enjoyable
The show has seen many controversy since its initial broadcast. The first season’s Matthew Stewardson was replaced halfway through the series with Sami Sabiti. Then, shortly after, Stewardson was admitted to the drug rehabilitation center.
The results in The Idols Finale was then followed by a series of complaints over Heinz Winckler’s victory, as many viewers saw the outcome as unfair and racist.
Season three winner Karin Kortje was not so happy in her private life following the conclusion of the competition when her boyfriend was accused of murder and robbery just weeks after the finale.
As opposed to the other contestants of her season Kortje did not get to participate in the finals of the following season.
In the last showdown of Season 5 there have been problems with the voteline and some votes cast before the cut-off time was not counted.
The report was featured on The front of the Times on May 8th, 2009, and later that day, it was revealed via the official Idols web site, that the count revealed how Jason Hartman had received 200,000 more votes than Sasha Lee Davids, who was initially declared the winner at the big finale, having 52.77 percent from the vote.

How early should I be arriving to the audition and what should I wear?
The lines are usually long, so be sure to arrive early. The registration opens at 8am. You must bring along your photo ID, proof of identity along with a bottle of water to stay hydrated, food , and an appropriate song for your voice.
Who can perform for Idols?
Anyone who is an South African citizen between the age of 16 and 30 can participate in Idols. Minors must sign a written consent from a parent or guardian. Singers who have auditioned previously seasons are permitted to audition again the competition, but not those who were part of an earlier Top 10.
